Sub-Zero and Thermador Built-In Refrigerator Installation
A built-in refrigerator is closer to furniture installation than to a fridge delivery. Sub-Zero Classic and Designer units and Thermador Freedom columns weigh 300 to 500+ lb, have to be anti-tipped to the wall, and are levelled so the door and panel reveals line up with your cabinets to the millimetre. They also need the cabinet opening, water line and outlet in exactly the spots shown on the installation guide. We handle the delivery path, set-in, leveling, anti-tip, panels and water connection.
Price
| Service | Starts around |
|---|---|
| Built-in or column refrigerator install | $800 |
| Haul-away of the old unit | $70 |
Most standard installs start around this price. Your final quote depends on access, haul-away and what's already in place, and we confirm it before booking.
What to have ready before we arrive
- The model's installation guide checked against your opening (width, height and depth, plus where the water and electrical must sit). Sub-Zero and Thermador are strict about this
- An existing water line with a shut-off inside the allowed zone, and an existing dedicated outlet in the allowed zone
- Solid blocking or studs behind the opening for the anti-tip brackets
- Custom panels made to the manufacturer's spec, with handles if they go on the panel
- A clear delivery path. See our Will it fit? checker for doorways and stairs
- Flooring finished and protected. These units roll on wheels that can mark soft floors
How we install it
- Path and protection. We measure the delivery path, take doors off if needed, and lay floor protection all the way to the kitchen.
- Pre-check the opening. We confirm the width, height, square, and the water and outlet positions before the unit comes in. That saves an expensive trip back out.
- Anti-tip. The anti-tip brackets are secured to solid framing at the top or bottom, depending on the model.
- Connect and set in. We connect the water line with the supplied fitting, plug in, and roll the unit into the opening without crushing the line.
- Level and align. We level using the front and rear adjusters, then adjust the doors and hinges so the reveals line up with the surrounding cabinets.
- Panels and trim. The custom panels, grille and toe kick are mounted. On column units we join side-by-side columns with the dual-install kit.
- Start-up. Ice maker and water flushed, a leak check, and we let you know when it will reach temperature.
Common problems we see
- Water or outlet outside the zone. If they sit where the unit needs to go, it won't push back flush. That has to be moved before install day.
- No blocking for anti-tip. Drywall alone won't hold it, so it needs studs or blocking.
- Opening out of square. A 3 mm difference top to bottom shows up as an uneven door reveal.
- Dual columns without the kit. Side-by-side columns need the joining kit, ordered with the units.
- Narrow condo elevators and stairs. A 36 in. or 42 in. unit may need the doors off or a freight elevator booked.
What's not included
We install appliances into spaces and connections that already exist. We don't do rough-in, new plumbing or gas lines, new circuits, or cabinet and renovation work. If your space needs that first, have it done before install day and we'll take it from there.
